Can you explain what the Critical hit is?
ditto. what is a critical hit? how do you know where to aim?
Let me try to explain again. Critical hit is a random occurrence. You just get lucky when making matches, and get twice as many points as usual. Doesn't matter if it's a gap shot or anything. Just happens randomly. The more matches you make, the more likely it will occur. (Though expect it to occur around 2-3 times in a game for an average player.)
From personal experience, sometimes no crit hits happen in a game, sometimes up to five.
Can you explain what a curve shot is please. Does that mean blowing up the balls on the curve only? Thank you
Thanks for this post. Very useful. Have you managed to figure out what happens when you send a ball of the same colour as a combo that is exploding at the same time? Sometimes I lose the ball and my chain bonus, but sometimes, if the timing is exactly right, it seems like I get an extra bonus for hitting the combo at exactly the right time. Or maybe I'm just getting "normal" points for hitting those balls and the combo stops? I hope my question makes sense.
Great share, thanks.
I finally reached level 80. Not the best player by far.I do however enjoy the game.I want to know why I no longer get the XP.I could use all the points I can get.
Level 80 is the level cap as of now.
I'm still having a hard time understanding the combo bonus. When I look at my score at the end of the game it usually says x1 and can have any score from 0 to over 100,000. Sometimes it will have x7 (or some other number) and be low as low as a few thousand or higher than 100,000. My question is this: is the 'x' the number of matches made after one ball? or the number of times you've shot a ball that makes multiple matches? I usually make many multiple matches but the 'x' number never seems to make sense. It's almost always 1. Thanks for clarifying.
That x is the highest combo that you made in that game. In your case, the x7 means that you achieved a x7 combo at some point in that game.
Mine does not seem to reflect that. I just played a game where I had at least a x4 combo during the game and the scoreboard at the end still said x1. The score for combos was 51,000. That's why it doesn't make sense to me.
yup ....... I'm here as i googled for "zuma blitz combo not much". I just scored 1.4 million and my combo said 94000 x1 and it keeps happening.
....... now 1.2mill with combo 85000 x1 .. and I definitely noticed a 3x combo in that game. weird!!
the x1 means you had one combo, if its x2 there were 2 combos x3 3 combos etc, it doesnt matter how BIG the combo was, just how many.
How do we count the Mojo and Exp gain?
Mojo gains based on Balls Cleared, more balls means more Mojo
So what happens after hitting Level 80? I'm there now. So am I only playing the game just to try for a high score? Or maybe to get all the Spirit Animals to gold? I've only gotten to the 800,000 points mark, so getting Spirit Points higher than that is a very long way away, if I ever make it.
Although they're probably raising the lvl cap to 100 soon, at this point you mainly get high scores and medals and beat the competition, which is usually tough to do. (In my leaderboard, you need at least 3.5 million points for a chance at bronze.)
oh...i'm so glad i'm not on your leaderboard..I top out at 1.2 mil
I just counted the amount of combos I made in a game. 13! And my score still said 43,000 x1. I purposely hit as many combos as possible just to see if the x1 would change. I won't swear to it but I can't recall ever seeing anything other than x1. How do we explain that?
The x1, x2, x3 is the multiplyer for the game. example, when you start the game you are at x1 every ball is worth 10-100 points, at x2 they are worth double- 20-200 points, x3 triple, x4 quadruple, and so on... I don't believe it has anything to do with combos, you hit a group of balls with a x2, x3, etc on it and it changes your multiplyer.
Great post! I think I've noticed that curve clear follows the same pattern as the fruit, that it gets higher for each time. However this could be down to the multipliers. I'm too engulfed by playing to be analytic though. What do you think?
They both increase in value, but in addition to multipliers, fruit point increase is based on how many fruit you collect, while curve clear is based on how far in the game you made the curve clear, not how many you make, as many people have originally thought. On some boards (Snakes board being a good example) you can curve clear twice in one second and get the same point value for both clears.
Thanx! :)
2.6 million and really eager to improve.
Thanks for the info. I love how you broke it down and explained it. I'll have to bookmark your page.
*SO* helpful, thank you!
I've been wondering what a critical hit is for so long that it was driving me totally up the wall. Thanks for clearing that up :)
Is it true that the fruit bonus is only +50% per fruit? The game says that its worth double each time, meaning 1x 2x 4x 8x etc... Which is true?
] great post, brendan, thanks a lot.
] still have a doubt you could help with: what is the multiplier applied to? combos? chains? fruits? gaps? cleared curves?
] another one: do fruits increase the multipliers when hit?
Thanks
@Sean: Answers to your questions in this order:
[ No problem,
[ all of them, and
[ no.
] cool. thanks = ]
Hi Why is it that some boards seem to have little or no fruit? Is there a specific time that the fruit starts to show up? I've played a few games, recently and absolutely no fruit at all!
The balls didn't go far enough down the track for fruit to spawn. This track you are mentioning requires balls to go to almost three layers deep before they appear.
how does one buy a Spirit Beetle Notes
The beetle is dumb. I could get higher scores by using the time balls which give you more time. Why was the treasure chest taken away? It was more beneficial to the player because you could win idols. Once you reach level 80, its the only way to earn idols. I have purchased my share of idols with cash but I still would like the opportunity to earn some in the game. I really hope it is temporary because it is my favorite game and i can't get high scores without using powers and i need idols to buy them.

Thanks for breaking it down. I've been playing for a couple of months.
Is the max value a fruit will be worth 137,700 no matter what the base value and multiplier?
Also, does the value for the fruit show the base x multiplier? I'm guessing that it does, otherwise the 137,700 x 9 multiplier would lead to a lot higher score.
Short answer: yes.
137700 = 5100 x 3 x 9
5100 = Fruit base value (at lvl 80)
5100 x 3 = max fruit value after 4 fruit collected
9 being the multiplier

Thanks!
I have to say that I'm -REALLY- impressed at over 3.5 million. I'm pretty good at games, but my best score is only 2.4 million so far.
In the summary of scores, there's a box for points given for powers. How does that work?
Self explanatory when you hover over the box for powers - more specifically any points from explosions (chain blast/bombs/last hurrah/cannon) add to this.
Excellent post. I've been playing Zuma for a LONG time and Blitz since it first was released.
Most of the scoring I understood completely, but this filled in the blanks.
I've already hit level 80 and reset myself back to 1 and on the way back up again. At about 35 now.
My high score is about 1.3 million, but I never use powers... ever.
In fact, I currently have 5,133,265 mojo and 573 idols (all earned in game, never bought anything with money).
